Fix Your Prayer LifeIf you are anything like me, often my prayer life can turn into the same old grind.  I find myself struggling to stay focused, staying in bed instead of getting up to pray, and neglecting my time communicating with God.  My life seems to go through phases, where prayer will be super important to me, and then I get stressed or distracted and prayer looses its priority.  So how do I fix that?  How do others fix it in their own lives? The God of Galactic Peace and Pet TurtlesThe other afternoon I found myself one of the children’s classes at church.  We were having a party, and as we ate I noticed their prayer request board.  The photo is perhaps two of my favorite prayer requests of all time.  One child requested prayer for galactic peace, and a moment later another child (presumably Hannah) asked prayer for her turtle.  I love the heart behind both of those requests.

It’s like the first child knows God’s incredible power, and wants the galaxy to be at peace (he may or may not have watched too much Star Wars).  The second one knows God’s incredible love, and know He cares about the details of her life.  Often I forget about one of those things, and my prayer life changes.  Continue Reading…

Praying for Dummies

Praying for DummiesI’m not an expert on praying.  Don’t get me wrong, I pray.  I pray for people, I pray out of gratitude, I pray to win the lottery occasionally (it doesn’t hurt my chances).  But I’ve never been an expert, I’m probably closer to the dummy.  I’m never been someone who spends 4 hours in prayer each day.  To be honest, I don’t know if I’d spend 4 hours in prayer if I had the time.  However, I have learned to pray in the spare moments.  Brother Lawrence called it “practicing the presence of God.”  Where God is constantly on our minds, our life is a conversation with him.
