I’m not an expert when it comes to writing. I’ve been blogging for several years, and have completed a couple novels, but I’d say I’m far from the next J. K. Rowlings. I’m not cranking out 700 page books or hitting the all time best sellers list. I haven’t even finished editing my novel I wrote last November (It’s coming along though). But today, I’ve got a single insight that will allow you to finish a novel. Or a home project. Or whatever kind of goal you want to set. Here’s the single step that will revolutionize all that.
Write the next word.
Or paint the next wall.
Or enroll for your next class.
Or start the next project.
The most important step you can take to finish whatever you’re trying to finish is the next one.
Not the one you just finished, or the final one, or the one after this one. This next step is the most important. The next blog post, or the next workout, or the next assignment. You want to know how Rowling wrote 7 best sellers? She wrote the next word. You want to know how Michael Phelps won 18 gold medals? He swam the next stroke.
The greatest accomplishments can all be reduced to one small action at a time.
What’s something you’ve accomplished that you had to focus on one small step at a time?
